I've seen The Presets perform live once, and for a relatively diehard fan, that's probably the least I could do in terms of seeing them live as much as humanly possible. The one time I got to see them live, almost exactly two years ago, was one of the more incredible experiences I've had with a collective audience. If the goal of going to shows is to vibe hard with a group of people that are into the same thing you're into, then their live show exceeds the greatest expectations you might have.
Maybe I'm being nostalgic because I'm about to see them perform again, and I can't help but remember how amped the audience was. How almost everyone seemed to be jumping as one collective, everyone hugging and smiling. Whether it was from outside sources or just natural reactions, the ability for a musical duo to bring together people in such a prophetic and astoundingly happy energetic way, is definitely noteworthy.
The duo started making music in 2003 and gained popularity as leaders in the explosion of dance music in Australia. I've always described their music as a cross between electronic, dance, and industrial pop. I'm not sure why I give them the industrial label -- maybe it's because I feel like I could listen to their music in an industrial warehouse in Berlin, somewhere deep underground, beyond the depths of the metro, where bullet-like elevators transport attendees to the underworld at lightspeeds.
They play at Warsaw in Brooklyn, tonight (October 31) in what will most likely be a sweaty and intensely energetic show.
