"Done in Secret" is a brand-spanking-new song from The Pigeon Detectives, a band from West Yorkshire that had a fair bit of success in the last decade. Formed in 2002, they've released two albums (Wait For Me (2007) and Emergency (2008)), sold more than 500,000 copies in the UK, and played sold out concerts and festivals on tour with bands such as Dirty Pretty Things and Kaiser Chiefs.
Recorded in Brooklyn, the track is the first original single the group has released since 2008, and comes in anticipation of their third studio album UP, GUARDS AND AT 'EM! (to be released April 4th). You can view the corresponding YouTube video here.
You might find yourself asking where they came up with their slightly odd name, as indeed many have. While you listen, a couple potential theories:
--An Australian guy named Steve chose it for them at the Leeds Festival as a joke, and they couldn't get it off their minds
--Dave (bass) breeds pigeons and has a special pigeon living in his shed who actually writes all their songs (not sure how this explains the detective part)
--Matt (vocals) and Ryan (guitar) pulled a Christmas cracker apart and found the name in there
--Similar to Dave's story, Matt has mentioned there being a large pigeon at the bottom of their garden that writes all the lyrics
While the group has admittedly accepted the last theory to be untrue, I can't help believe that it gives credence to Dave's claim that a pigeon writes all their songs from his shed. You be the judge...
