This song is a trip, and a prime example of John Dwyer’s ability to write any type of music he wishes and make it work better than most ever could.
"Drowned Beast" is slower and less of an uppercut than many of the songs comprising Thee Oh Sees’ 2017 album Orc. The tune reminds me of something a snake charmer would play just before he was going to throttle the cobra. I don’t think snake charmers necessarily attack their serpents, but that’s what comes to mind as I’m sort of deactivated when I listen to this song. The vibe invites a sense of vulnerability, which allows those uppercuts the window they need.
