Why do we like this?
You probably won't find yourself surprised to learn that Ratatat killed it at Coachella. Wailing guitars and insanely slick drumming drove the crowd into a fervor, but one thing was missing: the appearance of anything off either Mixtape Vol. 1 or Vol. 2. I would guess that 75% of the audience wouldn't have known they existed, so dropping a little Kanye remix would have killed it.
In light of that, I thought I'd fill the gaping hole in my mind by rehashing a couple classics.
The first is fronted by Biggie and starts off with the oh-so-relevant to 4/20-eve lyrics "Relax and take notes, while I take tokes of the marijuana smoke." The second sees Young Black colliding with Luda and Young Black. There's basically no doubt that both tracks are fantastic examples of the direction I wish today's mashups and remixes could be taking.
