Don't be fooled by the title of this song; this is no MGMT cover. This rising quartet from Cali has been featured on Indie Shuffle before, and remains a welcomed addition to any playlist stacked with dreamy electronica and new wave-inspired sounds. "Kids" was released on The New Division's EP Night Escape in 2012, but they have an album out, too. And it's a keeper.
Lead singer John Kunkel's voice comes in clear and steady on "Kids," while noise swirls all around him. The noise! This song arouses celestial imagery. It shimmers. It twinkles in the cold darkness of your bedroom. It evokes colored comet tails of magenta and turquoise in a galaxy of synths and flashing loops.
Maybe that's a little much, but when was the last time a song begged to borrow all of your senses?
Hopefully about 40 seconds ago.
