Why do we like this?
Great songs aren't released every day. That's why I'll never try to pigeonhole Song of the Day as exclusively for "new" material. And clearly, The National's "Apartment Story" is anything but new.
The Brooklyn-based quartet released the song back in 2007 as part of their fourth studio album, Boxer. I'm probably not the only one out there who very quickly fell in love with this record, playing it countless times (this was back when I religiously listened to albums...pre-blogging).
At the time, the track garnered a good bit of attention, finding the band on MTV, The Late Late Show and throughout countless "top songs of 2007" lists. A testament, perhaps to its success: this song's still a great listen half a decade later.
