There are a few words lingering from my time at SXSW that have been difficult to post. Being that we are rabid fans here at Indie Shuffle, finding a new song to share isn’t always easy. This is often the case when it comes to André Allen Anjos, who is better known as RAC.
Once upon a time, those letters used to stand for “Remix Artist Collective,” but no longer. Anjos has rightfully claimed the name and is beloved by us Shufflers. In addition to unique works, he has re-arranged songs by Lady Gaga, Chromeo, Bloc Party, and Two Door Cinema Club.
In 2016, Anjos was nominated for a Grammy Award.
In 2017, he won for “Best Remixed Recording.”
I know you know this, but sometimes I feel better restating the facts.
In March, I had the incredible opportunity to see Anjos play a DJ set on Rainey Street. On the sunny side of Half Step, he mixed Foster the People, Capital Cities, Lana Del Rey, and other favorites for a small crowd of sun-kissed, SXSW-weathered fans. It was my first time hearing RAC in person.
There was no crazy stage or perch for the DJ-- he (along with Chrome Sparks) performed in an open tent. It will undoubtedly go down as the closest any of us fans will get to Anjos. This is an artist who performs at global festivals (including the upcoming Corona SunSet Fest in Mexico and Outside Lands)! I felt incredibly humbled to see the artist play our favorite mixes in such an intimate venue, and it remains a highlight of my SXSW adventures.
Today, I finally found a new song to share-- and it’s exceptionally special. Anjos has altered The Naked and Famous’ recent single “Higher.”
RAC has an unmistakable talent for taking loud, dancefloor hits and transforming them into quieter, playlist necessities. In this case, he extends TNAF’s track by almost a full minute, using his gentle touch to re-spotlight vocals of Alisa Xayalith.
You will love the results.
RAC is going on tour this fall. I highly recommend seeing him in your city. Enjoy!
