My favorite Kiwis have been tucked inside a recording studio for quite some time, working on their insanely anticipated sophomore album. The wait has been dreadful. But the Naked and Famous have recently announced a drop date, and just released a single. Their second full-length album, titled In Rolling Waves, will arrive on September 16, 2013, and their first single, "Hearts Like Ours," is available now.
The New Zealand synth-pop quintet experienced a level of fame and fandom with their first album, Passive Me, Aggressive You, that most bands spend years fantasizing about. The group's youthful, anthemic single "Young Blood" debuted at the top of New Zealand's music charts, and was later awarded the prestigious Silver Scroll Award. The band spent 2011-12 touring the United States, U.K., and performing at major festivals, including Lollapalooza, SXSW, Glastonbury, and Big Day Out. They were then showered with eight New Zealand Music Awards, snagging "Best Album," "Best Single," and "Best Group."
And that was with just one album. Watch out world, come September -- days after their new album is released, the group goes back on tour right here in the U.S.
I have not stopped playing "Hearts Like Ours" since it was posted on their Facebook page. I honestly don't have any words that describe how happy I am with the sound. I am so, so happy.
Let the countdown till September begin.
