I've found myself falling away from the folk genre recently, a trend that I hope doesn't continue. While there have been a couple of standouts over the past few months (see
Dustin Tebbutt and Grizzly Jim Lawrie, among others), I've felt somewhat underwhelmed by a lot of the folk music sent my way.
This was not the case when Sydney band
The Mountains sent me their latest track, "Sun." This is the second single from the band's forthcoming debut EP (due out in August). Sitting somewhere between folk and surf-pop, it's a rolling, lazy track that generates considerable good vibes and warmth along the way.
With irresistible tunes like this surfacing, I'm looking forward to the resumption of my love affair with all things folk -- I sure missed it! While I've got your attention, you can check out the Mountain's first single, "Loose Jaw,"
