Though initially Stones Throw made its name through hip-hop and DJ records, they've been quietly shedding any genre-specific identity with the inclusion of Leaving Records and music by artists like Mayer Hawthorne, The Lions, and Silk Rhodes.
A new member of the family is Alexander Brettin. He makes trippy, feel-good, folksy rock under the moniker The Mild High Club. Warm and a bit grungy, this sounds like something Madlib would sample. This is bell bottoms and floppy hats, zig-zag joints and Milwaukee's Best in a Vista Cruiser.
Anachronistically charming, the single "Windowpane" bodes well for The Mild High Club's debut full length, forthcoming in 2015.
