Earlier this year I covered Tyler Lyle’s “Lost & Found” Midnight remix, which is a fantastic track and worth your time. But The Midnight deserves its own entry, especially after their glimmering new album, Endless Summer, dropped earlier this month.
The Midnight is a collaboration between Lyle and producer/songwriter Tim McEwan. Together they create dark dance tunes that are rooted deeper in the 80s than our own birthdays.
Their single “Jason” spotlights the lovely vocals of singer and pianist Nikki Flores, who also helped write this magnificent track. She's teased on Twitter that her own EP is in the works.
At this point it should be no surprise how much saxophone makes me swoon, and it’s the reason this track leaves me weak in the knees. The Midnight spotlights sax in almost all of their songs, and the solos on “Jason” are perfection. Fans of M83, especially Junk, will go wild for this noise.
