When I first started reviewing for Indie Shuffle, Perth electro pop band Tim & Jean were up there with my favorite acts. After the duo sadly went their separate ways last year, The Lazy Calm rose from the remnants, so obviously I've been looking out for new material from them. Headed up by Tim Ayre and featuring other members of the Tim & Jean live band, the four-piece released their debut single "Petrol, Paint & Glue" earlier this year and are due to release their debut album in early 2014.
The guys have just released their second official single this week, and there was a significant sigh of relief as soon as I listened to it. "Paper Dreams" is a great track, containing plenty of the elements we loved about Tim & Jean, but with a definite new twist. The soaring vocals and synth-layering remain, but it's topped off with a slick bassline and a slight edge of tropical guitar - giving it a fuller overall sound.
I'm sure The Lazy Calm get a little sick about questions or comments about their past, but with tracks like this we can definitely turn an excited eye to the future. You can also head over to the band's SoundCloud to hear a bunch of awesome "Paper Dreams" remixes.
