“List of Demands (Reparations)” is an electric cover by The Kills off of their 2018 7” by the same name. The song, originally written by Saul Williams, has been given The Kills' stomping drum machine treatment with Williams’ blessing.
Says singer Alison Mosshart of the cover:
It’s a song of strength and empowerment, rooted in the idea of rising above. It was one of those songs you’re almost scared to cover, because it carries so much respect. It wasn’t a straight up love song or a drug song. It was defined, serious, and perfect already. With certain songs, you feel like an intruder trying to sing them, but this one felt like my own.
And The Kills certainly do make it their own. Mosshart’s vocals are at their smoky, leopard-printed best. Jamie Hince delivers his signature guitar sound. That is, Hince has no signature sound and lovingly applies a unique texture to every one of his songs. “List of Demands (Reparations)” is razor sharp and ready to rock.
