Why do we like this?

It's a happy time for me at the moment, with some of my most-loved bands releasing new material after time away from recording. The John Steel Singers might just be the band I missed the most, having not heard from them since their 2010 albumTangalooma--one of my favorite of that year.

They've just made their triumphantreturn, with their new single dropping yesterday, just in time for a performance at this year's BIGSOUND Live showcase in their hometown of Brisbane.

"State of Unrest" is a fantastic single, and a great sample of what this band is about for people who aren't familiar with them. Typically scuzzy and quirky with a smattering of psychedelia, it's a fast-paced song driven along at a frantic pace by the demanding bass and percussion lines. As a huge fan, it's exactly what I wanted to hear from them after their time away.

This single is the first release from the band's second album, which will reportedly be out before the end of the year.
