With an impressive 10 album career spanning from the late '80s, The Innocence Mission has returned with Sun on the Square this year. Their career has, in fact, lasted so long that their children are now making an appearance on the album playing strings.
“Look Out From Your Window” is soft, subtle, and sweet. The beauty of the track lies in the effervescent vocals of Karen Peris, the stunning viola played by Anna Peris, and the way Don Peris evokes a Sunday morning in Barcelona with his guitar. It sounds organic yet carefully arranged, melancholic yet joyous.
I never thought I would love another song by The Innocence Mission as much as the iconic "Bright As Yellow," off of the Empire Records soundtrack (because, well, Empire Records), but "Look Out From Your Window," in all its intricate beauty, might have just surpassed it.
