Why do we like this?
In my short time as a blogger with Indie Shuffle, I've developed a bit of a common theme, writing about upbeat summer styled music, and this review will not change that.
The Holidays, a Sydney, Australia-based four-piece, have released a beautiful debut album after flying under the proverbial radar for a number of years. Forming in 2007, the band released two EPs in 2008 (Self titled and When the Ship Goes Down) while touring with the likes of Jamie T, the Wombats and Ben Kweller. They then took a short sabbatical to gear up for the production of their full length release, Post Paradise.
Mellow and melodic, this album has a flowing summer feel to it, especially given the steel drums which appear regularly (also brings back memories of the legendary Sting and the Police). These couple well with the tropical synth and arpeggiating.
"Moonlight Hours" was the first single released off the album and is a guaranteed crowd pleaser, a classic electro pop track. "Golden Sky" then followed in the same vein before the lads slow it down on their latest single, "Broken Bones."
This Saturday night, December 4, the Holidays are supporting the Bag Raiders (another of my faves), and I for one will be in attendance. I can't think of a better way to prepare myself for the long Sydney summer ahead.
