Why do we like this?
Because I am a hopeless romantic and a sucker for big talk, "Someday" by California-based band The Growlers, is currently appealing to all my senses.
It is cold in Michigan, and the heater in my car no longer works, so I'm finding it therapeutic to tap into the sunny disposition of Brooks Nielsen (vocals), Matt Taylor (lead guitar), Scott Montoya (drums, formerly bass) Anthony Braun Perry (bass), and Kyle Straka (keyboards, guitar). And even though it's getting too overcast to justify wearing shades, I will put them on anyway while blaring this song, and imagine I'm driving down Sunset Blvd and swinging into my clay stucco bungalow off N. Vendome St.
Because The Growlers are really good at pretending too, they've made a song called "Someday" with hopeful lyrics like, "I wish you could depend on me, I want to have your mouth to feed, I want to put your mind at east, no reason to ever leave... someday when troubles turn into champagne," which leave foolish girls like me believing that there are guys out there that think this way.
Someday even hopeless romantics and dreamers will find what they need. Someday a dream will become a reality. Something tells me if I continue to listen to The Growlers I'll really start to believe my dreams can come true too.
"Someday" is off their album Hung At Heart, available here, and they are currently touring in support of their forthcoming album, Not. Psych!, which is not a psych at all, it's really a real thing and will be out someday in the UK. For all you US cats, the album is called Gilded Pleasures and offers a few more songs than the UK release. It will be available November 12 via Everloving.
