Why do we like this?
Listening to The Decemberists cover the Fruit Bats, I can't help but think that these two bands would have a blast jamming together. The Decemberists don't do much to alter the sound of the Fruit Bats sweet single "When U Love Somebody," save upping the tempo and rocking out a little more than the Fruit Bats' original recording.
It makes sense that they would be drawn to this track. The bands have similar sounds, similar folk-rock Americana sounds. So this cover is less a remake and more one band giving props to another. And I'm just saying, I'll be keeping an eye out for The Decemberists-Fruit Bats double bill soon.
This song was part of the same iTunes session that included The Decembersists' cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hey That's No Way To Say Goodbye," which we featured yesterday.
