The Girls Can Hear Us,
LMFAO
Why do we like this?
The Connects formed in the dorms of CU Boulder in 2005. With their unique blend of 80s pop, electro-funk, and hip hop, they released their first video back in 2009 that received widespread play around the Boulder area. It seemed like a joke at first, almost a parody of themselves not too different from the beginnings of 3OH!3. Afterward, they essentially disappeared as they moved from Boulder, CO to Los Angeles, CA only to return in a big way this month with the release of their latest video "Summer in the City" that has viral written all over it.
There is something to be said for a group that's goal is to make music that is fun and entertaining to listen to. I would consider The Connects a disco/80s pop version of LMFAO with a sound similar to The Girls Can Hear Us. The content they speak about is not serious and reflects only the life they live or, as they say, "real social commentary into the complexities of the post college dropout." They are not trying to be anybody but themselves.
"Summer in the City" is a re-interpolation of The Lovin' Spoonful's hit song of the same name. The Connects flipped the track, adding some hard drums and deep bass along with a few rap verses to make a song that you will love or hate. Either way, you won't be able to keep your eyes off the video. This NSFW piece includes eighties garb, wigs, "little people," a stripper, and flashy cars. Once you watch it, you will know what I mean by saying it has viral written all over it.
