The energy from The Chats’ “Smoko” is reminiscent of some early punk tracks. The angst, the tempo, the stripped down sound is as pure a form of liveliness as I’ve heard for a while.
There isn’t anything complicated about the song, anyone could play the chords. What sets it apart, I believe, is that it sounds as though they don’t give a pile about what I think about it, or what anyone else thinks for that matter. “Smoko” is definitely more punk than me…
