I was reminded of this 2011 track from my last write up, and wanted to belatedly add it to the Indie Shuffle records. Nicolas Jaar, with whom I am sure you are all familiar by now, did a three-track release via Wolf + Lamb Black called the
Bluewave Edits.
Between a quirky rework of Missy Elliot and an interpretation of his own track "What My Last Girl Put Me Through," the talented music master that is Nico placed a rework of The Blow's single "Hey Boy." Keeping the lyrics in tact, Nico removed any track of frivolity and lo-fi embedded in the indie pop original. The conversational vocals simmer atop the dense, pendulum-like beat supplied for the edit.
Although this track is over a year old at this point, every time it plays, it feels relevant and fresh. To check out the Bluewave Edits in their entirety, click
