After an achingly long time since their last albumTurn Bluedropped in 2014, the Black Keys seemingly dropped off the face of the earth. The deteriorating relationship between the drummer Patrick Carney and the lead guitarist and vocalist Dan Auerbach was well documented across the music press. However, after much anticipation the band are back releasing the first single off the new album titled Lo/Hi in early 2019. This was shortly followed by other singles titled “Go” and “Eagle Birds”.
Back to what they do best, “Go” features a catchy trademark Auerbach riff and a staple Black Keys sing-along chorus. After the bands experimental sounds on “Turn Blue,” which featured more laid-back vibes and extended guitar solos it’s clear they’ve returned to a sound they know and love... rock with a hint of blues and rock and roll.
The savvy music video puts a clever spin on the public’s perception that they are only getting back together for the money. Although they never confirm or deny these suspicions, it is nice to hear the band back on form again.
Overall, “Go” is a great up tempo guitar track that can only be a bonus to your summer playlist.
