In the past decade, Australia has been churning out top-notch electronic music like a factory churning out sneakers: Flume, Nick Murphy, Tora, and many more. There's only one original, however. That brings us to The Avalanches, a band that has changed direction drastically in the past year.
The Avalanches used to make sample heavy, hip-hop flavoured electronic music. Think DJ Shadow meets Boards of Canada, or maybe Aphex Twin. Sometimes, the music would be only their carefully crafted instrumentals, accompanied with extravagant music videos.
Interstellar Love is a different beast altogether. Rather than sounding like an electronic duo, The Avalanches sound like a full-fledged band. This is mellow electro-pop. Adorned with Leon Bridges' gorgeous, heavily vocoded pipes. Like Caribou and Daft Punk had a baby.
The Avalanches release their new album, We Will Always Love You, on December 11th. Let's keep this on repeat until then.
