Why do we like this?
Alongside El Ten Eleven and Explosions In The Sky, The Appleseed Cast was one of the first instrumental / post-rock bands that I remember getting into back in high school. I suppose I've lost my penchant for this genre, but I can't deny that it's nice to revisit every once in a while.

"Great Lake Derelect" is the first new single off The Appleseed Cast's upcoming album Illumination Ritual, their first release since early 2009's Sagamartha. It features a strong vocal line -- a particular facet that has always differentiated them vs. the typical post-rock bands, who often stay light on vocals (if not removing them altogether).

Overall, I'm not going to put this track on at a party. But, I could see it working along a gray, windy Pacific Northwest beach.
