I have a abit of a love-hate relationship with London-by-way-of-Barcelona duo Thalab, and I'm not even sure why.
They're soulful but not that soulful, they're indie electro but not enough, they lean slightly into an indie rock direction but also... well, not really.
I always approach there songs with an equal mix of confusion and enjoyment. They recently released four track EP A Good Swim -- written and recorded last year in a room in London.
"All of the four songs came into their own in an intriguing way for us, we followed them rather than the other way around. There's some second-rate psychoanalysis in there, some mythology, idealized kitsch landscapes and gardening problems. Both sound and words were the result of loosening up the way we approach making music.” - THALAB
Thalab effortlessly weave through intricate textures, bold soundscapes, and an original take on influences from their hometown in their songwriting and production.
