Tei Shi, fortified with two band members, playeda solid 45 minute set last Friday at the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco -- not a small feat for an artist with only two EPs out in the world.
Bathed in simple colored spotlight, this Brooklynershowed she's ready to take on the live world with her powerful, almost spiritual stage performance. Working nonchalantly through some pretty annoying technical difficulties, sheplayed through tracks like "See Me," the ever-elegant "M&Ms," "Nevermind the End," "Nature vs Nuture," and more.
Live, Tei Shi completely rocked it. For someone who isontheir first tour -- at least on the West Coast --this artist easily took command of the stage, her set maintainingan overall crescendo of volume and energy, and appropriate moments of levity matching her musical style.
The very welcomed and obvious ender was "Bassically" from her latest EP Verde, to which the appreciative crowd rocked out to. Tei Shi bellowed over the microphone, a direct contrast to her schoolgirl plaid skirt and black v-neck shirt, while the twomusicians rocked out with her.
If this is what she's like at this stage in her career, I'm excited to see what the future brings for Tei Shi.
