London-based musician TALK SHOW gHOST, real name Joe Da Costa, doesn't have a huge following or a huge social media presence. He's not headlining festivals (not yet, anyway), and his music is not filling the shelves of music stores.
When a track is this intricate, though, it deserves to be shared. The subtlety and apparent simplicity of "For The Win" is an illusion; from the grand opening of the track to the meandering synth patterns towards the end, it's clear there is a lot going on.
Everything involved in the song is easy on the ears, and the soft chords played by the organ are just to die for. The track is concise enough to not outstay its welcome, and despite the fact that the chorus only comes around twice, it sticks in your head for a whole lot longer.
It's not often that electronics are used to create something as warm as "For The Win," and Da Costa's voice fits alongside it well, possessing the emotional ambiguity and depth of James Blake. He must be congratulated for creating the kind of low-key electronica that shows you that the future is by no means soulless.
