I'm not sure what it is about this song, but I absolutely love it -- and I'm not even usually a fan of stuff with revivalist influences.
Sweet Spirit is a nine-piece group out of Austin, Texas, and they're doing all sorts of weird and wonderful things to this blend of space age, disco-tinted indie pop.
Opening on synths and crunchy guitars, the soundscape immediately opens up, and it's just so satisfying. The huge atmosphere is bursting with rich layers of big, jangly rhythms, big chords, strings, and dreamy vocal melodies.
The soundscape itself is so well-balanced, from big guitars to futuristic sound effects, from falsetto vocals to the thick, deep bass. A perfect mix of the celestial with the vintage, this is a fun, funky, feel-good song.
The track follows on from Sweet Spirit's eponymous debut EP last year. Next month will see the release of Sweet Spirit's full length release, Cokomo, out October 16 on Nine Mile Records.
