I’m new to the noise of Reading’s Sundara Karma. I found “Flame” just a few months ago and it’s been part of my permanent rotation ever since.
Oscar Lulu (vocals/guitar), Haydn Evans (drums), Ally Baty (guitar), and Dom Cordell (bass) are still teenagers for crying out loud, but have already committed to a sound that’s alluring to listeners across the globe.
This new single dropped a few weeks ago in early February, a tease from their debut album set for release on March 25, 2016. The chorus claws at my heart. Another gem for your road trip and running playlists.
“I think I just wanted to write an honest account of my own experience of being young,” Lulu told Vice about the song. “Don't get me wrong, youth is pretty kick ass, but there is also a darker more terrifying side to it that not many songs or albums touch upon. There are far too many songs based on doing shots off table tops and chilling in the front seat or whatever, basically songs that focus more on the blur and accelerated partying but there's a slowness to youth that doesn't get fairly represented I feel.”
The chorus of this song swarms over me. I love the height Lulu’s vocals reach, and the ferocity in each note. This budding band is one to watch throughout 2016.
