If you've followed my reviews over the past couple of years, you'll know that I'm a big fan of Sunbeam Sound Machine, the stage name of Melbourne musician Nick Sowersby. After releasing his debut album toward the back end of last year, he's returned with more material just in time for an overseas trip.
"Getting Young" is one-half of a brand new 7' two-track, and carries on nicely from his brilliant LP which contained a number of winners. On the more upbeat and punchy side of things for Sowersby, it showcases his charming songwriting and expansive musicianship. The sunny track builds nicely, and reaches its summit with a glorious guitar blowout guaranteed to fill you with euphoria.
The B-side of the release is equally wonderful, but drifts into a tempo we've become used to from the talented Melbournian. The release will see a limited run of 7” vinyl sold exclusively via Bandcamp and is timed perfectly prior to Sunbeam Sound Machine's appearance at this year's CMJ conference in New York.
