Summer Flake is Adelaide's Stephanie Crase, although you may know her from bands including Fair Maiden and Batrider. She's been working on a solo EP, due out next month. It follows on from her gorgeous 2013 solo debut album,You Can Have It All.
I really love the organic feel of this track, and the kind of subtle expansiveness. The rhythm and that lo-fi folk melody make for simple, easy listening, and the extra vocals and the heavier guitars really capture my attention, drawing me in to a track that's catchy and surprisingly dense.
The melody -- angelic at times, nearly deadpan at others -- emanates Australiana. Artists like Courtney Barnett have really started paving the way for this uniquely sunburnt brand of indie folk, and Summer Flake is taking it down a bright new road.
Summer Flake's new EP Time Rolls By comes out on October 9 via Rice is Nice.
