A Quiet Choir / an Angsty Wail
Very few songs out there really advocate for, and explain, anxiety in a comprehensible and beautiful way.
What Sufjan Stevens has done with "Tell Me You Love Me" is something quite special. Making use of a crescendoing vocal track that overlays itself continuously with building vocals and instruments, they create an indie rock track that feels like a Christopher Nolan soundtrack.
What this song does so amazingly, for me, is that it touches on that melancholic detachment that comes with anxiety when asking people to just be present, whether it be a loved one, a friend, or a family member.
Its flowing vocals create a wail and cry for help that builds into one of my favorite moments of music in 2021 so far!
