In a music world that has historically been male dominant, it's fantastic to see strong, young, inventive female artists make a mark. The past few years have given us the likes of Lorde, Zola Jesus, FKA Twigs, Grimes, and HAIM (just to name a few), and it doesn't look like it's going to slow down in 2015.
Sudie is the latest name to add to that list. With a background rooted in classical music and opera, 23-year-old Sudie marked her return to the States (from Dubai) by recording and producing music in her apartment in Dallas.
"Bruise" is a striking single from Sudie's forthcoming self-titled EP, set for release this April. Combining elements of jazz, experimental pop, and electronic music, "Bruise" is a brooding, heartfelt tune that highlights Sudie's theatrical vocals and natural songwriting talent.
While one can hear hints of Bjork and Regina Spektor throughout "Bruise," it's Sudie's majestic and ear-grabbing voice that showcase her own originality.
This is one lass you'll be hearing more of in 2015.
