What do you get when you combine two guys from Michigan looking to make a danceable synth album just for the fun of it? Stepdad -- that's what you get. And this duo can be as nonchalant as they want, but their music is still fresh and catchy enough to latch onto the ever rising synthpop scene.
Ordinaire EP, out on September 6, is an anthemic mix of old and new electronically charged sounds that blend together so nicely that it may make your ears float. These guys are gaining much-deserved momentum with their synth-drenched pop songs. The lyrics are relatable, witty and sometimes tongue-in-cheek. The synths are aplenty, always keeping things interesting and dazzling. The beat is always a pleasure for practicing some of your favorite footwork.
Although Stepdad's style may seem simplistic and a bit reminiscent of Nintendo, if you take a deeper listen, you may realize that there's a method to their madness. There's a lot of careful construction that goes into this EP. Layers, dynamics, mixing of elements. There's A LOT going on here and you may just find yourself getting a bit nostalgic because they're just that good at what they do. It's okay to feel 17 again once and awhile.
