Why do we like this?
Supergroups have become a bit cliché in recent years, but Starwalker is certainly an exception to the rule. Consisting of Air's Jean-Benoit Dunckel and Bang Gang's Bardi Johannsson, Starwalker make shadowy, celestial songs that are at once reminiscent of its members past successes yet also refreshingly otherworldly and interesting.
"Losers Can Win," the title track of their much-anticipated debut EP of the same name, is a gentle, refined pop masterwork, featuring the almost whispered vocals of Israeli singer-songwriter Keren Ann duetting with Dunckel, whose vocals immediately remind the listener of Air's characteristic, chilled songs. The combination of synthesizers and real instruments sounds effortless, with mellow guitar strums and drum beats perfectly complimenting the trademark sparkling keyboards and synths.
According to the band members, "Starwalker depends on the people's wish. We are just answering our own and other people's imaginations." Their debut EP, released on March 17 through Prototyp Recording & Bang Ehf, is certain to do both of those things.
