As a guy on Reddit said, "This milkshake has certainly brought me to the yard." I couldn't agree more; I'm very keen on this release. First of all, John Gourley's vocals are always A1. They're the perfect balance between smooth, sultry, and psychedelic. A very similar feel to the vocals of Tame Impala's Kevin Parker. I could totally see Gourley doing a neo-soul tune.
Another Reddit user hinted that the lyrics might be alluding to the milkshakes thrown at fascists this most recent summer, which could make sense considering St Francis Hotel is from London. After looking up the lyrics, I can totally see the correlation, but it's a mystery yet to be solved. Portugal. The Man is great at slipping underlying, important messages to a groovy, catchy beat.
This track comes from upcoming St Francis Hotel debut album, We Fall Together, released via 30th Century Records.
