Young producer Spoonty has only just begun his career, but he's already turning heads in the Australian electronic/beats community. After only releasing his first EP in early November, FBi Radio gave him the nod as their Unsigned Artist of the Week later that month (previous recipients include Tin Sparrow and Toucan). The EP, Collections Vol.1, is available as a free download on his Bandcamp.
The Blue Mountains resident has an eclectic sound, derived from his many influences, and could be categorized as another convert in the recent glo-fi movement. His first release includes six expansive, pulsating tracks which range from the cheerful "Taro" to the slightly ominous "Lisps." "Let's Glow" is perhaps the highlight, another vibrant, glitchy offering reminiscent of one of my favorite Australian artists of the year, Melbourne's The Townhouses.
Spoonty is a genuine talent, and one to keep an eye on in the coming months with more live shows scheduled and the promise of new music to come.
