Sydney's Spirit Faces (multi-instrumentalist Pete Covington) has been one of the more difficult artists to pinpoint over the past year. The only common theme to his tracks is a varied, unique take on the pop genre. This, of course, is a fantastic trait to possess in such a saturated market (for both this inundated reviewer and the artist themselves). His latest single "Cloudplay" is a perfect example.
Featuring vocals from Sydney vocalist BOUY, it's a floating, sunny track that once again marks Spirit Faces as one to watch. There's a marching beat that pulses throughout, but rather than being regimented, Covington uses interesting samples and instrumentation to create intrigue. It's completely catchy, but in that "down the rabbit hole," left-of-center way that we're coming to associate with this talented jack-of-all-trades.
Spirit Faces’ debut EP Bedroom Music features collaborations with a number of other Sydney musicians and vocalists. Self-recorded, self-mixed, and mastered by Vlado Meller (Kanye West, Phantogram), the record will be out at the start of 2015 via TEEF.
