Spelles has returned with a thoroughly beautiful new single, the dark and stormy "Wild Heart." Intimate, gothic, and ominous, this is easily one of the best tracks that I've heard all year. I posted her single "Rib Cage" a few months ago, and I'm so happy to be sharing "Wild Heart" here today.
Opening on delicate and deliberate piano intro, Spelles' absolutely sublime vocals are airy, yet demanding. It's hard to stop listening to this track -- I can feel myself slipping right into every phrase, as they wax and wane around the slowly building instrumental layers. Strings eventually join in, adding a rich new texture to the track, before a deep percussive rhythm takes the soundscape even further. I might be gushing a little, sure, but it's not that often that a track leaves me so spellbound.
The LA singer, better known to some as Kathyrn Baar, is getting ready to release her eponymous debut EP on October 30.
