Sounds like:
Mogwai,
Explosions in the Sky
Why do we like this?
Sparkspitter is an instrumentalist post-rock band hailing from the Adelaide Hills in South Australia. While Australia is booming with musical talent, this genre is largely overlooked for the swarms of indie pop bands coming through. Given the talent of the likes of this three-piece, it's hard to understand the lack of recognition - although perhaps it's just my ignorance.
Together for just over a year, Sparkspitter released their debut (self-titled) EP in April, which you can check out on their Bandcamp. They've begun touring locally, with an Asian tour planned for November.
"Courtrock" is a standout on the EP, an exciting, layered track which combines a number of musical elements to provide a unique, and somewhat complex feel.
Sparkspitter's music will be a nice playlist addition for fans of Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky, and with an album in the pipeline, other music lovers might be exposed to this excellent band.
