It's coming up to three years since I reviewed Adelaide three-piece Sparkspitter, but given the quality of their recently released debut album, it's about time they were given some more coverage here. The seven-track LP, Techne, features some typically breathtaking soundscapes, but their most recent single "Bascient" is probably their most accessible track to date.
Featuring the haunting vocals of sisters Angela and Katie Schilling (from fellow Adelaide band Swimming), the track toes the line expertly between dreamy and dynamic -- a difficult feat to achieve. The shimmering guitar and throbbing bass tones are perfectly suited to the melodic vocal arrangements, reminiscent of some of Warpaint's more euphoric work.
Techne is available for purchase on Sparkspitter's Bandcamp page, a record definitely worth the small investment.
