Why do we like this?
Living in a foreign country can definitely give you an interesting perspective on life, or at the very least make you a bit of an expert in geography. This is especially true for singer-songwriter Spark Alaska.
Lorenzo Cook, the man behind Spark Alaska, has found himself on both sides of the Atlantic -- growing up as an American in Brussels and now going to school in upstate New York, where he finds himself writing tracks with his acoustic guitar. Following in the footsteps of other great songwriters like Elliot Smith and Conor Oberst, Spark Alaska looks to tell his story in a sparse, personal fashion.
For his first full-length venture, Everything You Know is Changing, Spark Alaska recorded the album far from the comforts of his hometown on the North Shore of Massachusetts. The setting for the recording has seemed to help shape the sound, as it finds Spark Alaska trying to figure out who he really is.
"Hidden Edelweiss" is the first single off the album, and it's a perfect acoustic bedroom pop track; even the beat was laid down care of an acoustic guitar. The two intermingling guitar sounds set the perfect atmosphere for a story of falling in love, filled with plenty of clever lyrics and metaphors. It raises the question: were the feelings mutual?
So now that you've had your geography lesson for the day, make your way over to Spark Alaska's Bandcamp page for a "name your price" download of Everything You Know is Changing.
