The older I get, the more I appreciate solo projects born from bands I love. These personal endeavours usually complement the artist’s bread and butter sound, and they help make the time between tours feel less brutal.
Space Above is an indie-electro act featuring Aaron Short, producer and keyboardist for The Naked and Famous. During a period of TNAF “uncertainty,” Short began casting his own spells with Sam McCarthy (BOYBOY) and Maddie North (So Below). The result is the dark and dreamy indie pop you hear today.
“Let It Still” is Space Above’s second single, ahead of their upcoming album, Still, set to drop on February 17.
There is so much to savor in this weightless, ambient track. North’s dissolving cotton candy vocals are fueled by Short’s signature synths. I can definitely hear the key similarities between “Let It Still” and singles from Simple Forms.
If you like “Let It Still,” be sure to check out “Fall Through.” Enjoy!
