Why do we like this?
Belfast-born, Liverpool-based Southern are the new kids on the relatively non-existent UK blues-rock block. The young duo, made up of brother Thom and sister Lucy, share a love for crunching blues riffs and distinctive folk elements that is evident in their punchy, melody-driven approach to the genre.
With their forthcoming eponymous debut due out December 9, the pair have just released the accompanying video to its lead track "Shout It" "“ an infectious, anthemic, pop-inflected example of their talented musicianship and energy.
Conversely, "World Don't Shine" showcases a more mature sound that clearly imbues more traditional elements married with alternative acoustics and demonstrates a commendable diversity to their style.
If you fancy catching them live, Southern will play Madame JoJo's in London on December 10.
