Full discretion: I haven't heard a chorus that I found this infectious or catchy in a long time. South of France has taken the elements of the golden era of indie-pop (RIP) and revised it into a contemporary sound that is fit to stand out in the saturated genre that is indie. It's dance-able, it's nostalgic, and it makes me happy. Aw :) so cute and wholesome.
Looking at the discography, South of France hasn't released an album since their debut in 2012, Another Boring Sunrise. Their latest single release was in 2016, so needless to say, I'm glad the wait is over. "Comme Ça" is the lead single from Denver-based, Jeff Cormack's sophomore LP, Remember That Cool Thing We Did, releasing early 2020.
Via the band's bio:
"Comme Ça" is french for "so-so" or "just ok" - a fitting title for a track about the blasé life of mediocrity that most of us live no matter how hard we try to portray otherwise. It was mixed by Shane Stoneback (Vampire Weekend, Cults, Sleigh Bells) alongside multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer Jeff Cormack (aka South Of France).
As someone who constantly yearns for the bliss that is provided by guitar-driven indie pop, I feel my needs have been satisfied x100. I'm definitely looking forward to the upcoming LP.
