Hailed as one of the most respected soul electronica acts in New Zealand, it’s no wonder that the Kiwi group Sorceress is making big waves in the Northern Hemisphere.
Vocalist Rachel Fraser and producer Isaac Aesili have created a sound that’s reminiscent of old-meets-new or “retro-future,” with their blend of soul, sass, and funk -- and with it, a movement they describe as a “Funkommunity.”
The most recent album Dose is an easy start-to-finish listen, with elements of soulful R&B, funk, jazz, percussion, and synth guiding you through the melodies.
For a guaranteed feel-good gig and to experience the Funkommunity, those in London’s Brixton can join Sorceress at the Midsummer Terrace Party on Saturday June 20, and for ideal Sunday vibes the Sebright Arms on June 21.
