Why do we like this?
Sonnymoon has been quiet since they announced their signing to Los Angeles indie label Plug Research last year. We have heard very little music from the duo, who are currently finishing their studies at the prestigious Berkelee School of Music on the East Coast, and they have had very few performances.
Out of the blue we recieve "Yes" from the spaced-out electronic duo. The song is a cover of an album track from Beyonce's Dangerously In Love album from 2003, which in our age might already qualify it for the title of "old school."
Vocalist Anna injects her performance with a sensuality that is tempered by a bit of coyness, taking a bit more of a nuanced approach than Ms. Knowles' original. The music on this version sounds much more "now" than the original, which at eight years old already begins to sound dated.
Surely designed to be but a teaser of what's to come, this playful cover seems to hint at a much fuller, developed sound from the starry-eyed duo Sonnymoon.
