Son Lux has been pumping out fringe experimental music since 2008, with the release of his album
At War with Walls & Mazes. The classically trained Denver native has cultivated a style that wavers between swelling orchestral arrangements and deftly produced electronic beats and rhythms behind a Sufjan-esque falsetto.
Last month, we showcased "
Lost it to Trying," an elaborate and at times frantic single off his his recently released album
Lanterns. This month, Son Lux has uploaded "Easy," which is practically chopped and screwed in comparison.
"Easy" uses much more minimal composition. It's driven by a sparse downtempo beat adorned with warbling, ghostly synth work as a backdrop to Son Lux's down-pitched auto-tuned vocals. A baritone sax rips through the track at points, giving some serious weight and punch to the otherwise skeletal composition. I've had the opportunity to listen to
Lanterns, and while "Easy" is a bit of an outlier, it's a strong track on a dense and unpredictable album that certainly warrants exploring.
