Why do we like this?
"Love You In The Dark" is the first single off Sombear's debut album by the same name. In his new side project, Bradley Hale, the drummer from Now, Now, channels the indie-synth gods for some laidback chill vibes.
On this lead track, Hale loops a simple syncopated beat steadily throughout and layers over a singalong chorus with lyrics that ring true in the most straightforward way. Sometimes, loving in the dark isn't the best way to appreciate your loved ones. This song takes that yearning passion and infuses it into a melancholy song of intense but restrained love.
I can't help but hear a bit of Mike Posner in his delivery and simple style, but Bradley employs some dark and complex textures to create a unique identity for himself. This track is definitely worth checking out, and make sure to pick up his album, out later this month on Chris Walla's Trans-Records. Be safe and keep the lights on, folks.
