Snoh Aalegra is a 26-year-old L.A.-based, Swedish-born artist. Together with producer No ID (Jay Z, Kanye, Drake, Rihanna), she's spent this year working on her debut releases, and has just dropped her first EP, There Will Be Sunshine.
"Bad Things" featuring Common is the first single off the EP. Anything that features Common gets a thumbs up from me, so I admittedly was sold before I even listened to it, but I'm pleased to report that this track is excellent!
Slow and sleazy, with a dark soul and a wicked groove, the track opens with a range of tones subtly creating a seductive R&B atmosphere. Snoh's vocals are clear and demanding, with a powerful warmth that rests in a really unique spot. A lot of soul/R&B singers seem to have either quite high ranges or raspy Amy Winehouse-style lilts, but this rests right in the middle.
I'm really excited to hear more from Snoh. In the meantime, check out this "Bad Things" remix courtesy of Killer Mike (Run The Jewels).
